“Dr. X!”
“Yes?”
“I said, ‘Do you honestly believe you’re making progress?’”
“With Carey? Yes, of course.”
“12 months, and she’s been conscious for 48 hours, at the most. How, exactly, is that progress?”
“I’ve been giving you my reports. Have you not read them?”
“Conversations, nothing but conversations. When will she be conscious again?”
“Whenever she’s ready.”
“And how long will that be, exactly?”
“However long it takes her to feel safe.”
“Explain to me again why it is that you believe you’ve achieved progress here.”
“Well, she’s in a place where she’s never been before.”
“How is that progress?”
“Perhaps you need to explain to me what it is you mean by ‘progress’.”
“I think we’re done, here, Dr. X. Thanks so much for your input.”

She means that sarcastically, I can tell.
